Choose Your Own Adventure Debate

The Tower Of BabelThe rules are simple. Choose the answer you'd give and go to the corresponding number to make your way through the debate. The topic of this one is the Tower of Babel.   According to Genesis 11:1-9, all humans had one language, and they were building a tower to reach heaven. God wasn't happy with this, so he came down, made them speak different languages and off they scattered, about 4000 years ago.STARTDo you think this is how the splitting of languages happened?Yes... Praying For Others (Sermons You Won't Hear At Church)

Brothers and sisters, have there been any recent events which have got you down? Perhaps a beloved family member is ill, or you've been depressed. Maybe even a disaster has struck your home, or the home of someone you love. If you've had a fairly positive few weeks, you surely must have noticed in the news the tragic and heartbreaking stories of what others have had to endure. All these things show my prayers were answered. I prayed to God for children to be abducted, for famine to starve…See More

Is God Hiding?

There are some Christians who cannot be sure if their god is hiding or not. Their answer keeps changing. In debates, they sometimes speak of how all creation points to their god, or how speaking in tongues shows his holy spirit is real. They may speak of healing that could only have come about with their god's help, or how Bible prophecies being fulfilled is proof it was divinely inspired. In their eyes, God isn't hiding. Proof of his existence is all around us!  But at other times, they speak…See More

Jod Of The Japs

Posted on July 14, 2011 at 3:00pm 4 Comments

There are some things theists don't have answers to. While a few might have it all figured out, other believers struggle with questions like:

Did Adam have a bellybutton?

If disease was created when Adam and Eve left the garden, does that mean Noah and his…

Haha, as both an English major and a perfectionist I am consequently also a chronic editor! I totally sympathize with you; feel free to amend anything that you feel warrants correction. I can't speak for the other mods, but I never mind re-approving an edited piece because I completely understand the desire to edit. :)

No need to apologize at all! I've seen people mention the problem with HTML and font color, but I'm pretty ignorant as to the exact mechanics of it so I just copied the blog to a comment so that people could read it. Personally, I can read the black font fine, but I know that some people cannot and I didn't want anyone to skip over your blog just because of that. :)

You have some interesting comments about reality and consciousness at the link you provided.

My take is that evolution has provided us with the sensory apparatus and brains best suited to surviving, as humans, in a world "red in tooth and claw". Our perceptions had to be accurate enough to avoid danger and stay alive long enough to procreate.

Although it would obviously be beneficial to be God-like in our perceptions and be able to see at microscopic and telescopic scales and in all wavelengths -- those abilities aren't necessary to live here in middle Earth.

What is the "true" nature of reality? I'm not sure how much that matters. To me, the main point is that our perception of reality is accurate enough to allow investigation and discovery and lives full of awesome wonder.

Hey Ser,

I noticed your comment in the chat, but you'd left it already.

At least on my chat, there is an option for an audio 'beep' when the chat gets updated. Left side, right above the entry window, next to the smiley face should be a small speaker icon.

Thanks for commenting back about Atheism Advanced. I'm in the middle of chapter 4 and am reading it fairly slowly. So yeah, it would be great to dialogue with you about it. There's a lot of rich content in the book.
