Out of the mouths of Babes.

At lunch today I overheard my 8 year old grand-daughter explain to her 7 year old brother that "Christ died on the cross for our sins."  Like it was truth.  My grandson decided Spiderman was…Continue

Science vs Religious thought

Let me make this simple if I can:I am not a scientist.  I read a lot of science.  I don't understand all of it completely but I believe it is true and rational.  I have seen things on TA that have…Continue

Personal definitions

I have seen discussions on what the word 'atheist' means. My POV.  I don't believe in god or gods the way I don't believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Prop Man, Sasquash, Fairies, or magic.  I…Continue

Why are you here?
I had my epiphany of that there was no God as I was going in for major surgery with the chance of not coming back. Knowing for certain that there was no God comforted me. That was 10 years ago and I have been happily non-religious ever since. And I haven't started drinking blood yet.

Why you left your religion.
I just couldn't rationalize the mythology. I read alot and I've read the Bible. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I Like Christmas

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 11:00pm 2 Comments

I was sitting in my office today.  I was alone as almost everyone else has taken off for the holiday.  I had  Pandora on Christmas music.  I listen to a lot of Baroque, Renaissance, medieval, celtic and new age music anyhow and that was the flavor of my Christmas music.  I also had Trans-Sibrian Railway and Manheim Steamroller.  I really enjoyed it.

I like Church.  I don't mean the religion.  Or The Church.

I like the Christmas Service Happy Music…

Supernature is FUN!

When I was a child I was a bit fanciful. I remember my mother on several occasions explaining the difference between 'real' and 'pretend/imagination'. And speculating about things was fine, playing was fine, but in reality I would not be able to fly off the roof with my umbrella like Mary Poppins and if I got hurt she would kill me.

I love to read. It comes with the whole librarian thing and I have been reading since I was 4. I do read a lot of non-fiction; history, medicine,…

My car runs on magic

Posted on November 15, 2010 at 1:48am 7 Comments

I decided my musings are more Blog worthy than Forum worthy.

As far as I am concerned, my car runs on ritual magic. I basically know how it works and I used to be able to do things to to engine but now they are computerized and more complicated. I put gas in my car, I turn the key and it runs. A matter of faith.

I take it to the Car place when the lights come on and tell me to 'change oil' or 'check tire pressure'. I know what these mean and could posslibly do…

I live in a very Christian/Right-wing community. There is a 10 foot lit up cross on one of the hills. Private land so what can you do? I don't mind people practicing their religion until they assume, impose on me. I don't show up on door steps at 9 AM on a Saturday morning to explain mythology and delusion to my neighbors but I fell Like it is time to try.

I am a very closeted atheist in my community. My family is really non-religious. My children have both side that they are 'really athiest' though one daughter identifies as a pagan and the other as a Buddhist. My SO believes in 'something'.

I took my kids to church, but did something right because it didn't take. I think rational discussions at home helped them make their own decisions at about 14. And I encourged them to think for themselves.
