John Swaile AKA reverendjohn

Posted on August 25, 2009 at 8:00am 12 Comments

It saddens me to inform the community of Think Atheist of the passing of my beloved John, yesterday.
He truly enjoyed this site and all of it's members. He proudly wore his Think Atheist bracelet wherever he went. He died knowing he was loved and that he was not alone in his philosophies.
Live long, live brave and always question!
Thank you,
Carmela Ramos

Wedding

I went to my cousin's wedding this past weekend. It was quite nice except for the trains, just a few feet from the doorway, and the heat. All things aside the ceremony was lovely, very christian with some catholic rituals thrown in and humorous. All of this got me thinking about my own pending nuptuals to ReverendJohn. We are both atheists who come from catholic backgrounds. I must admit that I love certain traditons in a catholic wedding,(unity candle, lasso(hispanic), etc) Then I reminded… Continue

You're totally right about Hicks and Bruce. The fact is that much of their material was somewhat inaccessible to large portions of the country because it questioned the status quo. I work weekends at a comedy club and you can just feel the crowds clench up when religion and politics are mentioned. Add in the intellectualism and now you are sending jokes over the head of at least a third of your general audience who walks in with no idea who they came to see.
I don't like the term "comic's comic" but that is what those guys both were and it's a shame.

Hahaha, thanks for the skull book! It does look cool. I noticed you had Bill Hicks in your holy trinity with Carlin and Bruce. I feel like he wasn't/isn't appreciated as much as he should be, the guy was brilliant. I actually have a few of his bits in my playlist on the site.

Hey, I'm glad you can enjoy this strange little pursuit I use to occupy myself. I don't think you'll have to worry about a shortage of material from me - a day without writing, for me, is a day without essence.

Thank you for your kind words.

Sure. It's a daycare for dogs. They all get temperament tested, checked for vaccinations, and spay/neuter (if seven months or older). Once they've been accepted they can come anytime. We have toys, tunnels, slides, pools, sandboxes, and a couch, chair, two ottomans, and several open crates if they want to get some rest. They play together all day long, then they go home and pass out and don't move until the next day. It's a lot of fun, but very messy.

Hi Carmela,

Thanks for your comment! It was fun meeting and chatting with you, too! It's nice to have you here!

By all means, you're welcomed to join the group. I wish I could think of more material to cover on there.

An FSM pastor? That would be deeply offensive to most guests. I think it would be worth it though when everyone is asked to eat the body of god and they get served a plate of spaghetti.

I hope it works out for you. I'm not even sure of the whole promise thing myself. We may be above animals in intelligence (not everyone mind you) but I see us as the same. To isolate oneself to a particular individual seems rather, call me crazy, selfish of the other. I don't know why I see it this way so call me crazy.
