"Cara, Mail that letter!!!!! The honesty and forthrightness of it speaks so well to how you feel the relationship has left you, basically, victimized. If she has half a heart the truth will be seared into her psyche. "

About Me:
"Knowing can be a curse on a person’s life. I’d traded in a pack of lies for a pack of truth, and I didn’t know which one was heavier. Which one took the most strength to carry around? It was a ridiculous question, though, because once you know the truth, you can’t ever go back and pick up your suitcase of lies. Heavier or not, the truth is yours now."

Why are you here?
I'm here to help people learn HOW to think... because I believe that rational thought, inevitably and eventually, leads to non religion and atheism. Even if it doesn't, I still think people's freedom and happiness depends on their ability to understand the world around them. Nothing would make me happier than to see people using their miraculous brain at its full capacity.

Why you left your religion.
Because it's absolutely ridiculous and self-contradicting, to put it mildly.

Dear Old Friend, Goodbye

Posted on March 25, 2014 at 11:06pm 12 Comments

I so want to send this letter to a childhood friend of mine, but I probably won't. I want to stop taking her calls, but I've known her since I was 11. I'm still friends with her sister (we were like the Three Amigas at one point), but... I dunno. I'm just so over the facade. And I'm so over feeling so... invalidated. This girl has been through so much, and I tried to be there for her... but it has been ALL about her for so long, and not me at all. It's a toxic relationship,…

Agape Love

Posted on June 30, 2013 at 6:52pm 52 Comments

Growing up, I was taught about the kind of love God the Father has for his children; it was called "agape love." I understood it as the kind of love that allows a parent to forgive their children for wrongdoing, and the sort of love that allows God to forgive humankind for sin. It was something to take comfort in. The message that we had "fallen short" was pounded into my head, and God's love had to be extremely powerful to…

On Carl Sagan

Posted on June 25, 2013 at 9:07pm 26 Comments

I found this incredibly beautiful; a realistic love story, and a true appreciation of fleeting life:

By Ann Druyan, wife of Carl Sagan

When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me - it still sometimes happens - and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife. They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again.

Carl faced his death with unflagging…

How to be a Skeptical News Consumer

Posted on June 12, 2013 at 1:56pm 3 Comments

By Donna L. Halper

Skeptic Magazine

Even the most skeptical among us have had this happen: A friend or relative forwards an e-mail from an organization with a safe-sounding name (“The Clean Air Initiative,” “The Center for Consumer Freedom”), but the e-mail is filled with scary assertions, usually of a political nature. If the Obama-care health bill is passed, Grandma will face a “death panel” that will decide if she lives or…

Noam Chomsky: The Kind of Anarchism I Believe in, and What's Wrong with Libertarians

Posted on May 29, 2013 at 11:00pm 35 Comments

Disclaimer: This is an article posted on AlterNet which I could tell had a lot of important things within it, but the message was held hostage in the worst formatting of a (presumably) recorded interview ever. I only took the time to format it myself because I really wanted to untangle what Chomsky had to say, and break the word-wall down into digestible paragraphs. I also made some edits for the sake of clarification, so it's not all completely original. I tried to contain my edits within…

i posted it twice on the discussion board because I was instructed not to on the blog.  Neither was posted to discussions.  I hope they don't look at it as being too close to home but instead a subject that needs breaching.  I know I'm not that literate on the computer, but the methods I used in the past worked for postings.

Coleen, of all the people that I've encountered on Think Atheist, you and one other person seem like reasonable and sensible human beings.  I submitted this article on the discussion board and so far was meant with silence.  I think this subject needs to be addressed just like male chauvinism within the atheist community.  Again, I find it hard to believe that the supposed best and brightest of our culture can't engage in a topic that will benefit us all.  It just goes to show that racism trumps intelligence.  And you can tell them all an extensive vocabulary and reliance on a racist education does not bode well with enlightenment.  And ALL atheist seem to claim to be such.

Yeah, not so much musicians, but people who make video's.  Like DarkMatter2525 (Dark Antics) and others...  Maybe I'll make atheist music video's?  I'd love to take a shot at some of your poetry and add it to music.  Let me know!

Yay, maybe I'll give it a try.  Just have to brainstorm on a topic.  I'd love to do music Atheism style, I'm just not comfortable with lyrics yet.  I do make video's with music - check out this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcyh8y5yjRU  - I did it for my friend who's on American Idol.  Now I just have to figure out a "voice" so to speak within the Atheist community.  Not so easy, there are plenty doing great stuff on youtube.  Help me brainstorm?
