Those who would give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin
I don't really know much about Benjamin Franklin, but apparently this quote is out of context; it was one statement in a letter to a colleague…

Brought to you by The Onion (a satirical "news" organization)
THE HEAVENS—Sources close to God reported Thursday that the Creator of the Universe and Author of Our Eternal Salvation suffered a crippling bout of existential dread this week, lying awake all night as He pondered His own immortality.
Anxiously drumming His fingers, the all-powerful being was…

I've become increasingly frustrated with people's insistence that words can mean whatever they want them to mean, and whatever is convenient for them to mean. Words are meant for one thing: communication. Once everyone personalizes words and definitions, we lose that ability. If "to you" a chair is what the rest of us consider a table, you're going to lose us when you start telling about setting the chair for dinner.
Even more frustrating is when people, or Bibles, make absolute…

There’s an image floating around on Facebook of what appears to be an African man holding his emaciated son in his arms. The caption says something about God and prayers being unanswered, and how this is proof there is no god. It’s not the only image like it floating around, so I’m sure you get the gist. God answers the prayers of indulgent, greedy Americans yet ignores the pleading of starving children everywhere else in the world (well, and even right in the United States). Of course, a…

Cara, when you have a moment, would you mind featuring my group, the Thinking Ape, for a while?
Shabaka Tecumseh said… i posted it twice on the discussion board because I was instructed not to on the blog. Neither was posted to discussions. I hope they don't look at it as being too close to home but instead a subject that needs breaching. I know I'm not that literate on the computer, but the methods I used in the past worked for postings.
Shabaka Tecumseh said… Coleen, of all the people that I've encountered on Think Atheist, you and one other person seem like reasonable and sensible human beings. I submitted this article on the discussion board and so far was meant with silence. I think this subject needs to be addressed just like male chauvinism within the atheist community. Again, I find it hard to believe that the supposed best and brightest of our culture can't engage in a topic that will benefit us all. It just goes to show that racism trumps intelligence. And you can tell them all an extensive vocabulary and reliance on a racist education does not bode well with enlightenment. And ALL atheist seem to claim to be such.

Derek Sexton Horani said… Yeah, not so much musicians, but people who make video's. Like DarkMatter2525 (Dark Antics) and others... Maybe I'll make atheist music video's? I'd love to take a shot at some of your poetry and add it to music. Let me know!
Derek Sexton Horani said… Yay, maybe I'll give it a try. Just have to brainstorm on a topic. I'd love to do music Atheism style, I'm just not comfortable with lyrics yet. I do make video's with music - check out this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcyh8y5yjRU - I did it for my friend who's on American Idol. Now I just have to figure out a "voice" so to speak within the Atheist community. Not so easy, there are plenty doing great stuff on youtube. Help me brainstorm?
Thanks for your commentary - I enjoy reading your posts
