Why do they take it so personally?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Brad Reddekopp Sep 4, 2011. 18 Replies

The title explains it all really. Why do some theists seem to take it so personally when you say you don't believe in not just their god, but any god? It just seems so silly...Continue

The Man Next to Me is Made of Staw... and His Arguments Suck

Tonight I started a discussion with my religious friend about immortality. I was interested in talking about the problems it would pose, such as population ect, and the solutions and products of those solutions. The conversation soon sidetracked. He asked me what marriage would mean if we all lived for a very long time. I said it would mean the same thing today, depends on the couple. If people are going to stay together, they will. If they want a divorce, they will get one, and that's ok,…See More

Ignorance is bliss

Sometimes I wish I didn't know so much about all the reasons god doesn't matter. Just join the masses and agree.

My friend said if he and I ever had a falling out, it would be because of my atheism. Every time it comes up, he always tells me I'm not an atheist, as if it's something impossible to be. It's not that I believe god doesn't exist, I just don't think he matters if he does exist. It's like santa. Santa could exist, he could circle the world at the incredible speed…

Jesuits

I REALLY want to respect these guys. Their awesome, and the Jesuit high school I went to was amazing. My best friend is going to be a Jesuit as well.

Their brilliant people, open minded, thoughtful, skeptical of traditional thought patterns, and very kind. Everything I strive to be as an atheist.

But they dedicate their lives to god. Every time I see one, I get this disappointed feeling, like their wasting their lives, because I know they, of all the religious people in the world, are… Continue

Stereotyped

So a few nights ago, I told my best friend, who wants to be a Jesuit Priest, that I was an atheist, and we had a very long discussion about it. He isn't a science guy, and over the next few days, he told his science-minded friend, Will, (whose also my friend) about our discussion. This wasn't a big deal, I don't really care who he tells about it, it's not a huge secret.

Anyways, we all went out for dinner tonight, as kind of a last hurrah since I'm leaving for college and he's got another… Continue
