Brought up devout Roman Catholic in Laredo, Texas during the 50s, went to Catholic school from 3rd grade thru my first degree at St. Edward's U in Austin. Began questioning seriously at age 25, stopped practicing at 27 and have spent 40 years getting over the guilt and emotional suffering. No longer intensely angry with organized religion, but still seriously bothered by the universal damage caused.
Why are you here?
I would like to connect with other like-minded individuals and carry on intelligent conversations about being exChristian.
I am exploring meditation as a purely rational and human activity.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
The major social injustices that the church was silent about, while being sexist and homophobic at the core and it's alliance with political power in many countries.
The biblical contradictions and contortions that preachers and believers need to make to explain the unexplainable parts of the bible;
The cherry picking for specific preachings...
The claim of revelation from God
Infallibility of the pope
and on and on and on...
What I will never forgive is the intense guilt and suffering the church laid on a little boy who was credulous and considered himself the worst of sinners...
The priest that told me I was a 13 yr. old rotten apple in the apple bin
