Welcome, Ashley Bryant!

"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"

"To the man whose mind is free there is something even more intolerable in the suffering of animals than in the suffering of man. For with the latter it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and the man who causes it is a criminal. But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. If any man were to refer to it, he would be thought ridiculous. And that is the unpardonable crime." -Romain Rolland

About Me:
Don't let others ideologies and reasoning define you! Freethought is the only thing you have control over in this world. Question everything, educate yourself where you lack knowledge or understanding, and always keep an open mind.

Hey, everyone! I'm a vegan, atheist, animal lover living in Oregon. I love anything that gets me outdoors and connected with nature.
I'm very easygoing and up to trying anything at least once! If I had the means to travel I'd be all over this world exploring and making beautiful memories. If I could make a wish come true, it would be for all of humanity to live off what the land offers, respect all the other species that inhabits this planet and stop damaging this earth.
Currently I am working as a CNA in the recovery room at a local hospital. I am going to get back into school for nursing. After I obtain my RN I plan to work towards a secondary degree in herbology, and one day have a little practice out of my home and grow my own medicinal plants.
My goals are to become self sustainable, actively educate myself throughout my life, help build my own cob home, become well cultured, and never lose my empathy or tenderness.

I know that my cruelty-free, eco conscious lifestyle doesn't impact the animals and plant life that inhabit this planet on the grandeur. But if I can leave an impression on anyone to make a positive change in their life and leave a smaller footprint or educate themselves further, then I have done my part. I can see no greater way of honoring this beautiful planet.
Why are you here?
To talk and have discussions with like-minded people.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
I finally woke up and realized what kind of crazy bullshit I had convinced myself of. There is no freethought or open mindedness in religion, and it was impossible to avoid the doubts any longer.

Yes, that's it!  :)  Anyhow, please read "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn.  I'm quite positive you'll love it.

You're welcome.  The Monkey Wrench Gang is definitely next on my list of books to read.  I can't remember if it was that book I read about or one of the environmentalist groups Abbey inspired, but who was it that made fake cracks on dams as a sign of protest?  I'm writing a story that had a similar idea where (to make a long story short) there are a couple activists trying to decide whether or not to actually blow up some dams.  They do a couple test runs by painting a few dams to look like they'd been destroyed (ie, painting a waterfall through a crack.)  It's a work in progress but hopefully it turns out.  What kind of stuff do you do to spread the word, so to speak?

Interesting.  I'll see what the library has of his and place an order.  Derrick Jensen is... not a pacifist, shall we say?  He's not the best writer but he has some interesting ideas like:

I haven't actually read any Edward Abbey but I recently read something (A Reenchanted World) that talked about The Monkey Wrench Gang quite a bit. I take it Abbey is worth reading?  What about Derrick Jensen?

Pretty much everything in your About Me section tells me you'd enjoy Daniel Quinn. Start with his "Ishmael" and go from there. Your library should have it but I suspect you'll want to own your own copy anyway. Let me know what you think of it if you read it.  Nice to meet you.
