Andrew, i was reading your Sniz outing post. I think that you should dive right into it with your family. Maybe my family is different because we talk, but one of my sisters got annoyed with my snide comments. She had a point in terms of courtesy. But it lead to a great 2 hour debate of four on one. Now it's no secret about how I feel, but the misconceptions were hilarious. One of my sisters was sure that I was a Scientologist because I was talking about science. My Dad is a believer but found the assertion that an infallible Genesis means that world isn't older than 6000 years incredulous. The point is that if you confidently and respectfully stand your ground, you'll expose your family to information that they've never thought of. Unless you feel like you are on the outside, you take this BS for granted. Ignorance is bliss only until you learn the truth. Go show them that it isn't a whim. That you have information they can't deal with. Say to them... take the word faith our of your vocabulary and answer my questions.
I think that the more of us that do this with those that we love, the more accepting they will be to strangers that feel the same. Just my two cents.

that sounds great, but be warned - the culture takes a lot to get used to. Plus, if youre hoping to escape the fundies, we have our own version here, so no luck there. The thing is, every culture has its ups ad downs - that isnt to say i wouldnt recommend it, but i wouldnt limit my travels to just europe. Europe is wonderful and I love it with all my heart, but you know, the grass is always greener.. :)
I'd say, if you love to travel, live in europe for some years, really take in all aspects of it, because it's rare to have this kind of culural diversity so condensed, but dont stay here, see the rest of the world too, because it will seriously enhance your life. and i know this sounds cheesy, but its kinda true :P
