Why are you here?
Looking for a place to discus Athiesm with other, like-minded individuals. I am also interested in the social and economical problems that I think religious leaders, their beliefs, and the religions themselves cause in this world.
Why you left your religion.
Wicca/Paganism (Not llisted above)
I left because I realized that I was only into WIcca becase of the image (of myself) it created to be a part of the Wiccan culture. While I found the folklore fascinating, I did not actually believe any of it to be historically true or accurate in any way.

WTF? Hyper-criticism on the rise?

Posted on June 7, 2012 at 3:00pm 20 Comments

Jeeesh! There are so many hyper-critical people everywhere you go these days, most especially on the internet. I can't post anything, no matter how benign, without someone finding a reason to pick it apart; and they don't bother to try and be polite about it, that's for sure. It kind of makes me not want to post anything at all.  It's sad, because here on TA, I thought that I had found a place to discuss things with other people in a rational matter, but all I usually get is more of the same…

Christian Nation? What?

Posted on May 11, 2012 at 4:51pm 2 Comments

Before I even get into this, I would like to say that I am an Atheist and I do not beleive that a man named Jesus Christ even existed, let alone that we should be following the teachings of a man who lived over 2000 years before us.

Every two days or so I see a meme or post come across my newsfeed about how this country is a Christian nation founded on Christian beliefs. This is usually in reference to how the gay community is ruining our nation or has some hidden agenda to turn all…

Cherry-Picking is driving my crazy!

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 12:05pm 4 Comments

I am mot going to point any fingers, mention any names, or point to any specific threads/blogs (because I'm cool like that - lol), but I am beginning to have a problem here on TA.

Usually I don't have a problem finding good, intellegent, rational, conversation on TA. If I post an opinion/question, make a comment/pose a question on other peoples' posts, I can usually count on a two-way chat where we can comment and ask questions of one another in order to better undersrtand where the…

Tales from a Public Library

Posted on September 3, 2011 at 2:00pm 14 Comments

I work at a public library. To say that the library attracts all kinds of patronage is an understatement. We attract everyone from the frugal upper-middle class (sometimes even the very wealthy, depending on what's going on during any given working day), to the homeless. Of course, this also includes everything from mildly religious people to an alarming number of people who see the Bible as the unfailing, perfect word of God. How do I know this, you ask? Simply by observing the books they…
