- I have recently come out to my mother, and despite her having her own religious beliefs, she was surprisingly okay with me being an atheist.
This has given me more assurance that I AM okay the way I am and that I should try to connect with others around me.

- Never religious. It was somewhere around the age of 8 when I had to take the [Catholic] classes to be able to eat the host. Even though I was young, I had trouble with accepting that I was a sinner for simply not cleaning my room and for even just being born.
It didn't sit right with me and even though I had to go to church up through high school, I never felt the presence of a god and the stories continually sounded more ridiculous to me. It wasn't until I got to college when I was able to admit to myself that I am an atheist. It has been within the past year that I have opened myself up more to it and all of the worry has ended with me being able to recently tell my mother.
Now I have no worries.
I am an atheist, and I'm happy!

I also think that such antiquated 'dark ages' beliefs help to block out certain parts of the brain which allow free thought and a greater ability towards logic and wisdom. I think that those beliefs carried along today through tradititions, etc. bring along those same barbaric traits in humans which existed in that period when science and technology were literally non-existent and men were more animalistic and totally uncivilized!
