"I don't know what a "pro-abortionist" is if it is not about as semantically accurate as "pro-life" but indeed in general I would say "No!" Even though I find it despicable and it utterly disgusts me to (usually…"

Albert Bakker replied to Rick Yost's discussion 'The Earth is inhabited by DNA'
"Of course that is one way to look at it, and it is a legitimate one. But even if this reductionism-inspired perspective on our place in the world and the order of things is a more "fundamental" one in a sense, is it also the more important…"

Albert Bakker replied to JD Stockman's discussion 'Suicide'
"Well maybe the instruction manual sometimes functions more like a talisman, a symbol to center around like a totem pole, but less arty."

Albert Bakker replied to JD Stockman's discussion 'Suicide'
".. Says specifically Mark 3:28-30 and Matthew 12:31-32 other verses in Luke and Hebrews can also be interpreted to reflect that message. Of course you are right that in practice religion like catholicism is a social phenomenon and what the…"

"I agree with Kairan. They bother me only insofar as they're a strain on my cervical vertebrae, but  willful stupidity, especially in an organized form, always worries me. Having said that I have to hurry because I have to greet Tonatiuh…"

Albert Bakker replied to JD Stockman's discussion 'Suicide'
"I suspect that's exactly because the Holy Ghost is such a useless, superfluous and unnecessary complicating invention. When you put an emphasis on a prohibition to doubt the most doubtful and problematic creature or feature in some system…"

Albert Bakker replied to Misty: Baytheist Living!'s discussion 'Resource Conservation' in the group Atheist Homesteaders
"It could be that masonry wood stoves are better than other wood stoves, but I do have to find that according to NESCAUM from the 10 million or so wood stoves used in the U.S. more than 3 out of 4 aren't even EPA certified. But even EPA…"

"Solar panels I understand. I have thought about those myself, but at the moment it's just not worth it. I don't really get the wood burning thing, though. Is that just because it is cheaper? Environmentally it is just about the worst thing…"

Albert Bakker replied to Brendan's discussion 'Budhism and Atheism'
"I've seen too much buddhism in action to have a positive view towards it. It is promoting backwardness, it's exploiting the poor. It does also promote sectarian violence as can be seen Burma or Sri Lanka. It can be a hobby for spoiled…"

I'm sorry for the way that discussion turned out, Robert - I had no idea things would turn out that backwards.  Thanks for the background info on Senter, I hate to think of how far that thread might have gone.

Thanks for the support, Albert.  I don't actually expect to change Sassan at all, but I also know I can't change theists.  All I hope to do is stand up to hateful, warmongering, nationalistic doctrines in a way that makes people a bit more timid about presenting them.
