"I wonder what these "deists" really believed. I would like to think many were more measured in their public disclosures then they really were in private thought. They left clues perhaps....what is T. Jeff REALLY saying here? Question with…"

"The deists of the time of the founding of the United States were creatures of their times. Intellectually advanced creatures, but few in that day and age were able to throw off a belief in God. That they were able to decide that there was no…"

"The deist may just be nodding yes, nature itself is a higher power than us, and the only word that conveys this thought effectively, especially during the enlightenment was the G word. Or maybe I give them too much credit and they really…"

Gallup's Mirror replied to Adam Weber's discussion 'Why Not Deism?'

"Yes, I agree, but in their defense, the deists may fill in the name of God as a placeholder, but would just as easily erase it in the light of new evidence."

Gallup's Mirror replied to Adam Weber's discussion 'Why Not Deism?'
"Let us not gloss over that the "evidence" for deism-- the notion that the universe was created by an all-powerful super-intelligence-- consists of non-evidences like human life, the laws of physics and the universe itself. (That, or the…"

"Under the part one definition of "theism" it says  Most deists (particularly modern deists) do not believe in revelation. Which is why so many deists criticise revolved religions. "

Nerdy Keith replied to Adam Weber's discussion 'Why Not Deism?'
"Theist believes in a personal God a deist believes in an non-personal God.  Since deists don't believe in revelation; I would say that is the difference between the two. Deism is not a subset of theism; because of how it is defined"

OK Adam, you can have your opinion. I know I wont go to hell because there is no heaven or hell. How wicked is that thing called religion that tells you one thing then another to suit their purpose.

Enjoying our banter, anything I say is not personal. What does god look like if he exists, or she, or it, Show me and prove to me that a god exists until then I will continue loving everyone, not ill treating them and have compassion. Which it seems a god should be able to do and therefore would help starving children.. How many priests will be in hell then if you believe in it. A lot maybe who have abused little children. Get the world straight before saying there is a good god. He must be rich if he exists as the rich always look after their own.

Proof has not been forthcoming in support of Jesus as the son of god, perhaps it was Joseph who impregnated Mary. We only have the word of many who never lived during the time. .  In the name of an evil god there has and always will be an excuse for killings. Those who are white believe in a white god, black -a black god- chinese believe ....- etc.  Your god hates me and wants me to go to hell. Nice eh.
