The Design Argument

Perhaps one of the best arguments based off empirical evidence, the more we learn about this planet and the universe, the more momentum this argument is actually getting. Having finished a year of…Continue

"Isn't deism a subset of theism. A deist believes in God but not in his active participation in the world, the theist thinks he stuck around. Are your definitions so different that there is no "middle ground" between them. In other…"

"Adam, In your mind's eye what is the distinction between being a deist and a theist? I don't believe there is a middle ground between the two as I understand their definition."

"http://www.treasury.gov/about/education/Pages/in-god-we-trust.aspx Is the text of the letter credited with getting the ball rolling in 1864. It's clear the motivation at the time was to recognize the Xian god. In hunting that down I tripped…"

"I agree with both of you it wasn't founded on Christianity. I do believe "In God We Trust" IS a reference to the Xian god, though.  I can't point to hard evidence of this right off the bat, but it's an inference based…"

"I'm not sure the problem was Christians. The way you explain it, it may be that the main problem is journalists who don't understand enough about religion or philosophy to write or talk intelligently about it. Bertrand Russell complained…"

"Well to be fair the belief of deism doesn't make any claims on a purpose of the universe. I suppose you might call it a spiritual explanation of the first cause.  But the thing is there, one could say the same thing about a view of the…"

"What I will say to that is. That when Anthony Flew converted to deism. There was a massive frenzy in the media point blank assuming that he had converted to Christianity. Just go to show you how dishonest Christians really are"

Nerdy Keith replied to Adam Weber's discussion 'Why Not Deism?'

OK Adam, you can have your opinion. I know I wont go to hell because there is no heaven or hell. How wicked is that thing called religion that tells you one thing then another to suit their purpose.

Enjoying our banter, anything I say is not personal. What does god look like if he exists, or she, or it, Show me and prove to me that a god exists until then I will continue loving everyone, not ill treating them and have compassion. Which it seems a god should be able to do and therefore would help starving children.. How many priests will be in hell then if you believe in it. A lot maybe who have abused little children. Get the world straight before saying there is a good god. He must be rich if he exists as the rich always look after their own.

Proof has not been forthcoming in support of Jesus as the son of god, perhaps it was Joseph who impregnated Mary. We only have the word of many who never lived during the time. .  In the name of an evil god there has and always will be an excuse for killings. Those who are white believe in a white god, black -a black god- chinese believe ....- etc.  Your god hates me and wants me to go to hell. Nice eh.
