Adam Nowak replied to day vo's discussion 'What is heaven'
"Couldn't have said it better, Cathy.  Once I finally got rid of religion (my "mental enema" as I like to say) I felt for the first time to be in total control of my mind.  Freedom to think is heavenly."

Adam Nowak replied to day vo's discussion 'What is heaven'
"I've thought a lot about heaven in the recent past.  It seems that, somewhere in the bible, it says you get to worship god all day and night, for eternity.  Sounds like a blast.  Then there are people who think it's just…"

About Me:
I am a husband, dad, and devout atheist/antitheist. When my daughter was born in July 2009 I knew I had to either give in to family pressures and raise her with religion or follow my instincts and understanding that gods do not exist. I was raised Catholic in a solid, loving family. Since I was about 10 I've had doubts, and when I received my Confirmation - the sacrament meaning you are a "soldier of Christ" then I knew I was out - never went back to church after that. I'm still not totally out, well, I DO retweet Think Atheist stuff and my religion on Facebook is Atheist, sooooo... I guess I'm a loud an proud atheist. "No gods, no masters."
Why are you here?
I want to engage in this dialog with people I can identify with on this subject.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
For me it's all about the Hindus. I went to Catholic school my whole life, and in high school they taught us a comparative religion class. We learned about all the peace-loving people in the world, like Gandhi* and the Dali Lama and such. But we were Catholic, and had to believe in Hell. That meant that these loving people, who toiled to help others and make the world more peaceful, would BURN IN HELL FOR ETERNITY because they didn't think jesus was the son of god.
