Oh, but you all are supposed to believe all three of the mortals are atheists!  And forget about the numbers doG has killed.

Well...Stalin WAS an Atheist. Hitler may have been at worst an Atheist Pretending to be a Christian to Lead the Flock, and at best sincere in his beliefs. Not so sure about Mao.

i believe its about numbers ( biggest tyrant/killer) not who was or wasn't atheist

I see no reason to think that atheists, 'can't be monsters'. If an atheist position leads you 'no values, or 'I am great', maybe that could supply some of the ground work

Adolph Hitler was responsible for the deaths of 66 million people in World War II, not 17 million. The German census of 1939 found that 98.5% of the Nazis were Catholic, Protestant, or Neopagan. Hitler himself referred to God continually throughout Mein Kampf and in numerous public statements. But why stop with the Holy Reich?

The Black Death: 200 million dead. All devout Christians. (Nobody kills like God.)

Death Toll - Event

66 million - Second World War
40 million - Mao Zedong (mostly famine)
40 million - Genghis Khan
27 million - British India (mostly famine)
25 million - Fall of the Ming Dynasty
20 million - Taiping Rebellion
20 million - Joseph Stalin
18½ million - Mideast Slave Trade
17 million - Timur Lenk
16 million - Atlantic Slave Trade
15 million - First World War
15 million - Conquest of the Americas
13 million - An Lushan Revolt
10 million - Xin Dynasty
10 million - Congo Free State
9 million - Russian Civil War
7½ million - Thirty Years War
7½ million - Fall of the Yuan Dynasty
7 million - Fall of Rome

Theist Tally:
325 million deaths (27 million due to famine)
Atheist Tally: 76 million deaths (40 million due to famine)

Note that if a Cult of Personality counts as religious belief-- god of state rather than god of sky-- then the numbers under the Atheist tally drop precipitously. Dogma is dogma, after all, be it religious or ideological.

I wonder how many pagans died during that time. Rounding up to millions could hide some truth.

Humans are all capable of atrocities regardless of what they believe. We've always slaughtered each other with great glee, no exceptions. That is human nature. I always find it ironic when they speak of humane treatment of prisoners or animals. Given the evils human kind is capable of I think I'd rather forgo on being treated humanely.

A Quote by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche on evil

Of all the evil I deem you capable. Therefore I want the good from you. Verily I have often laughed at weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws.

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 - 1900)

No claws, but minds that can conceive the death of worlds...

Europe was overwhelmingly Christian during the age of the Black Death. I'm sure a few pagans were hanging on in secret but they're not exactly atheists either.
