Why do you think they want prayer in schools?

Paynton, RE: 'I think it's equivalent to asking "what is the most compassionate thing to do?'" - which reveals just how flawed your thinking processes are, compassion involves an interpersonal relationship with another, while WWJD involves a belief in a supernatural being that likely never existed.

Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26)

That doesn't sound like honoring to me.

RE: "Jesus has houses everywhere" - so his name's on the title, is it?

It's the Bible, Jeremy, it's not expected to make sense.

"sometimes empathy requires NOT HELPING the person"

Does it?

"From what I understand about Jesus, he was only interested in the destitute and only a mentally ill person would desert or hate their families."

Shouldn't you be a bit more honest, and say, "From what I understand about Jesus, from anonymous authors who never met him, he was only interested in the destitute and only a mentally ill person would desert or hate their families."

Ad hominem, Angela.  WWJD?  Would he have made that comment?

If christians did, even some of the good stuff in the bible, there would not be a problem. I don't care where people get 'good intentions' from - but christians pick and choose what they follow.

And if a child or teenager, or relative chooses not to follow a particular religion - out they go, in many cases, completely ostrazied, shunned by family - all very loving.

I am lucky enough to be born into a society where religion is questioned, people are questioned, religions are scrutinized. People are becoming aware all the time of the hypocrisy in christians, hypocrisy in the bible. This is why they are losing ground on morality and ethics. They don't follow what they preach.

Children in catholic, independent schools aren't stupid. They are also realizing the hypocrisy in religious teachings - which is why, particularly catholics, do not want Ethics and Morals taught in secular schools.

Then there is our new Prime Minister - an ex- would be Jesuit priest - lets see him follow the teachings of the Jesuits - not going to happen - and this bloke is steeped in catholicism - will not respect people loving each other - doesn't care how pathetic our education system is - just keep pouring millions into catholic and Anglican and Muslim schools - at the expense of tax payers - at the expense of the rest of the children - criminal.

States closing down secular schools, instead of putting more money into these non-for-profit schools - nah, let's just keep pouring money into private schools, so they can have another swimming pool or tennis court.

The Science portfolio Minister has been dropped - this moron believes in Armageddon - has morning tea with our lovely George Pell, one of the top honchos in the catholic hierarchy here - the Master of Deflection as far as pedophilia is concerned.

While the kids who go to these private schools - become budding entrepreneurs, selling drugs to fellow students - there's progress. Why not - if the book and the people that they are 'taught' to follow - are also hypocrites.

- Ah, yes, the morality of religion, it really is heartwarming.

"Insanity is believing your hallucinations are real. Religion is believing that other peoples' hallucinations are real."
-- Dan Barker --

I won't contribute to another's delusions, Anglea, and I would never teach them to a child as truth.
