Comment by Dr.Grixis on October 10, 2012 at 12:16pm I don't want any single person ever to be able to "push the button" and generate a fuckstorm of destruction on earth. Never understood all the stuff about mutual destruction, if we're fucked anyway, why strike back? It's not for our sakes, right? So, it's simply revenge? Kill a couple of billion, because "they started it!"?
Comment by Strega on October 10, 2012 at 3:27pm "When the time comes to push that button".
You know, I would be a lot happier if that "when" was replaced with an "If ever".
Comment by Dale Headley on October 10, 2012 at 3:33pm Evidence suggests that George W. Bush, had he contemplated pushing the button, would have asked guidance from Jesus. And what would have been Jesus’ response? “Nuke the m_ _ _ _ _ _ __ _ __ _ _ s!”
Comment by Strega on October 10, 2012 at 4:21pm There is a wonderful scene from a UK TV show called Yes, Prime Minister - in which the 'red button' policy is discussed. For those on low bandwidth, it is a 5.47 minute Youtube upload.

Comment by archaeopteryx on October 11, 2012 at 12:28am I've read that the Japanese agreed to surrender days before the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, if true, I can only assume it was done, not as a necessity, but as an object lesson to the world - hardly a reason for vaporizing thousands, and condemning thousands more to slow death by radiation poisoning, not to mention, deforment of thousands more. I am American, but that does not mean that I approve of all the American government does - promises made during an election campaign, are not always kept after election.
Comment by Tom Sarbeck on October 11, 2012 at 12:51am Remember, the strongest of our earliest ancestors, cyanobacteria (AKA pond scum), gobbled the weaker with no feelings of guilt. We are, very slowly and occasionally backsliding, learning to get along. Progress, which included the invention of chocolate, requires patience.
