@Unseen: In Finland's case the Winter War and the Continuation War against the Soviets.
And there won't be any bombing of chemical weapons sites, that's just insanity. If it escalates to a full scale war the US may use it's Massive Ordnance Air Blast (Mother Of All Bombs) to evaporate the sites, but as it's delivered by slow moving Hercules props the air space needs to be secured first.
It is thought that these weapons came from Saddam's stockpiles, isn't a bit late to think of "non-proliferation"? Our "boots on the ground" didn't stop them from disappearing (and our money) then, do you think the outcome now will be any different?
Do you think that tossing missiles at them just might piss off someone enough to come here and attack us on our home ground? They are have a war of there own there, do you really want to get in the middle of it and have them come after us too? When does lobbing missiles at someone make peace, when has that ever happened?
War is a lie
"to the remarkable and very welcome skepticism that is greeting the U.S. government's current claims about Syria. The fact is that, were the White House telling the truth about the need for an attack on Syria, it would be a first in history. Every other case for war has always been dishonest." - David Swanson
Thought this was rather funny, and on the point
Arcus, war does make strange bedfellows, and Unseen who can dispute with everyone will sleep alone.
I wonder if anyone of you knows the fact that Al Nusra Front, which claims allegiance to al Qaeda and share the same ideology with them.
simply America is fighting Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, Meanwhile they are supporting their allies in Syria .. does this make any sense !?
@archie ... we are fine here in Egypt .. thanks for asking my friend.
Strange how the people who can not or will not do any of the actual fighting are the first and loudest to beat the war drums.
And strange how it is considered heroic to kill in the name of peace, but it is not heroic to die in non violent protest in the name of peace.
If I recall correctly chemical weapons were used in the Iran/Iraq war...did the USA bomb either country?
If not then why is the US president entertaining the idea now?
I remember when I was 20 and that was one of my own favorite arguments. After a while, I realized the corollary: "If you don't like the way we do things here in the U.S., why don't you leave the country?"
Luckily, this is the U.S. where all are encourage to take part in discussing current events. Encouraging all sides of a discussion is simply patriotic. Wanting to throttle discussion through shaming is not.
BTW, I was on the streets in the Vietnam era. I was among those helped to bring the boys home.
Okay, who said that and where is that happening?
smply America is fighting Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, Meanwhile they are supporting their allies in Syria .. does this make any sense !?
Obama is supporting al qaeda's allies in Afghanistan? No, not exactly. While some politicians want to arm the rebels, for Obama it's all about preventing WMD's from being used. He realizes that the rebels are a very mixed bag.
