Dumbfounded indeed! I hope I never have to be treated for any sort of illness by this person.

Perhaps issuing some sort of challenge may help. Something along the lines of: without using the phrase "god did it" or something similar, please explain where the heavier elements came from.

pfft. the atomic theory? we don't need that right? Because nursing doesn't take advantage of anything like chemistry or physics.

They say "IGNORANCE IS BLISS"...I think it's bloody hilarious....

Just because 'atoms' came from different stars does not really say anything much about the atoms, the same underlying process for their creation still holds. The awareness that our galaxy was not the only one was rather a new 'truth' when I was born, and the size of the universe has continued to grow along with our awareness. In my short life of 57 years, I have seen alot of changes in knowledge, and technology. I got my first computer in 1984, and have grown with bigger and faster machines ever since. I wonder what will come down the pike next, and what old ignorance will I have to release in exchange for a deeper knowing/understanding?

How do you graduate from high school without knowing there are atoms in matter?  I worry.

Reading the posting again, it does remind me of someone that was only interesting in getting a degree, and not actually learning something or becoming deeper in her understanding. The idea of a 'life time valley girl' might be considered. Sadly, we are not all touched by knowledge in the same way, some only stick their toes in deep enough to touch lightly, else the lights might go on and preconceptions are dashed to rubble.

I do hope she knows how to measure in mili-grs, mili-liters, and knows the difference between a cateter and an IV..;p). Sounds like another show plot for House, can you imagine the tirade?
