It is 2012 - contraception and abortion shouldn't even be a point of contention - Roe vs Wade was 1973. Yet, here we are, watching the political machinations at work. Thankfully, the Komen Foundation has retracted their statement and will now continue to fund cancer screenings ($700,000) at various Planned Parenthood facilities.
What is more important, is to vote for and loudly proclaim support for those representatives, such as Colorado's Dianne DeGette (D), who won't just lie down and let the Religious Right walk all over them. This country's voters need to wake up if there is to be a country called the United States of America that still values the health and welfare of half of its citizens and doesn't depend on a 2000 year old belief system to create the framework of its national health policy.
I don't believe the Republican's war on women is going away. If anything, this Christian coalition is just getting started.
