That's a common definition of reality: "That which exists whether you know it, believe it, or like it, is reality."
You are free to evade reality but you are not free to evade the consequences of evading reality.
Sort of like that joke with the punchline, "I don't need to outrun the bear. I just need to outrun YOU!"
Reminds me of the joke about the guru. A seeker of wisdom goes to India and sits down with a throng listening to a guru discuss the concept of "maya," according to which the world of the senses is an illusion.
After a while, a mad elephant bursts on the scene and everyone gets up to run, including the guru. The seeker catches up with the guru who is running at full speed and says to him, "I thought the world is illusion?" "So it is, my son." "Then why are you running from an illusory elephant?" "What running? What elephant?"
