Comment by Kris Feenstra on July 13, 2012 at 5:10pm Why wouldn't atheists have guilt? Personally, I don't waste very much of my life fixating on guilt or regret -- on things in the past I cannot change --, but these feelings are natural reactions. These are useful feelings if you learn from them going forward. No need to eliminate them altogether.
Comment by Juli on July 14, 2012 at 1:57am I once noted to the rather Christian husband that the main difference between our belief systems is the fact that he can pray his sins away while I have to make daily sacrifices to ensure I can go to bed with a clean conscience. First of all, not the right thing to say the first month of your marriage, definitely not the right thing to say while said Christian husband is still sulking over the fact that he couldn't have a religious ceremony (Not because of me, mind you, I agreed to live a lie for a day to make him happy but his religion wouldn't allow me. Related advice, telling your spouse you'll "live a lie and follow your delusions while wearing a pretty dress that will get shoved into a closet and forgotten" isn't the best way to have the marriage ceremony talk).
Lastly, it was, and still is, the only thing I've said about religion that he couldn't debate.

Comment by James Cox on July 14, 2012 at 8:40am There is so much I still can't fix or solve. My ignorance is sometimes glaring, but I rail against my limits. I see cruelity and ugliness, but sometimes I am impetent to change it. I sometimes suffer under the yoke of BS, and I am bound by practicalities.
Comment by Dale Headley on July 14, 2012 at 2:29pm You hit the nail on the head, Keira. It’s why I assiduously avoid committing any kind of crime.

Comment by Colleen on July 14, 2012 at 5:48pm Aren't we all just forgiving ourselves at some point? The only difference is that some say it's a god or a higher power who as granted them forgiveness. Even with a belief in god, some people punish themselves for years or more before they're able to move on.
