scary, would not like to live where these dumb people are in authority

Welcome to my nightmare, Danielle. A sample of recent quotes from people who are (or tried to be) in authority in the country where I live:

"Yeah, I would." – Nevada Republican assemblyman Jim Wheeler, when asked if he would vote to reinstate slavery if his constituents wanted it.

"Gee-whiz, the hormone level created by nature sets in place the possibility for these types of things to occur." – Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss on the military's rape epidemic.

"There are many other states that embrace those conservative values, the approach that we've taken over the years. I'm in one today, in Florida." – Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry, delivering a speech in Louisiana.

"The Great Flood is an example of climate change. And that certainly wasn't because mankind overdeveloped hydrocarbon energy." – Texas Republican Rep. Joe Barton.

"The middle class. Since when in America do we have classes? That's Marxism talk." – Former Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum.

"Wanting a white Republican president doesn't make you racist, it just makes you American." – Failed Republican congressional candidate Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher.

"Forty years ago, the United States Supreme Court sanctioned abortion on demand. And we wonder why our culture sees school shootings so often." – North Dakota Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer on the causal relationship between abortion rights and mass shooting incidents.

"We need 100 more like Jesse Helms in the U.S. Senate." – Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.

"We're not preaching austerity." – Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan, whose budget would slash $4.6 trillion in federal spending.

"It is not the role of the Congress to make college affordable and accessible." – North Carolina Republican Rep. Virginia Foxx.

"Society itself is at risk and cannot continue." – Michigan Rep. Tim Walberg on the destructive consequences of the Supreme Court's gay marriage decisions.

"My father had a ranch. We used to hire 50 to 60 wetbacks to pick tomatoes." –Alaska Republican Rep. Don Young, during his effort to aid the GOP's outreach to Hispanic voters.

... And in todays' news, women who wear dresses shorter than the length to their ankles cause alien invasions.
