ahhhh yes, how our ignorance runs deep down here in the south. Pretty stories to entertain the mind, while the church steals the money out of your pocket and provides a false sense of security. I fucking hate living here, but I have to keep my hope that times will change and intelligence will prevail.

What a coincidence; the darkest (most religious) states are also the states most known for less educational achievements, highest divorce rate, crime, etc.

If Alaska is #5 in the least religious states how the hell did a whack job bible thumper like Sarah Palin get elected governor?

Still, nice share Johnny, interesting to see.

I live in Oregon and if we are some of the least religious people in the nation, I would HATE to live any closer to the fairy tale (bible) belt.

There is a notable correlation between how economically robust and wealth of a region/country and how religious their citizens are. I can't say it's a meaningful correlation but it's still striking how predictable (if you gloss over the oil/gold/diamond blessed) the standard of living a place will have if you know it's rate of religiosity.

@davis it's a year old but Texas has an extremely robust economy and is a highly religious state. It's number two on the list.

More reason why Texas is the greatest place to be.

Plus atheist experience is here.
