Trying to get some accurate credit for the quote. I've been reading Freethinkers by Susan Jacoby... She attributes this to Ethan Allen "...if ordinary human beings were assumed to be perfectly capable of thinking of reasoning for themselves, the clergy would be out of work." I don't think that it comes with such a great photo though.

I never looked into it before, but you're right, and here's a good blog on this Gaytor. Looks like this one is actually not quoted correctly, besides having non-reference-able attribution.

In searching around, I also came across another interesting quote by House from season 2, the "House vs God" episode: "No, you talk to God, you're religious. God talks to you, you're psychotic."
