Comment by Pope OoO (Out of Order) on November 5, 2012 at 1:12pm That sounds too simplistic to me. Unless there's really a simple way to prevent this cruelty and injustice?
There's another cliche, like "Freedom Isn't Free", as if it poses a useful solution (which it doesn't). The way I see it now, one of the costs of freedom that we should bear is the cost of setting a good example to the world. Instead of espousing that all we have to do is wipe out extremists (and ignore the costs of innocent lives, and ignoring its cultivation of new, angry extremists), we could spent resources on constructive instead of destructive endeavors. Like medicine, hospitals, and other things that we're good at and are good for the world, and good for the world to see.
Comment by Pope OoO (Out of Order) on November 5, 2012 at 1:14pm (I mean yeah, give me a button that instantly kills all extremists and discourages future extremists, and I'll push it!)
this image isn't about solutions.. it's about awareness.. and no there's no button to press to suddenly change the scriptures or tribal practises that have been around thousands of years...
what this image is about, is the liberal minded westerners that would rather have some keep their primitive rituals , rather than condemn them for being unjust and cruel..
the word islamophobic is now being used whenever anyone criticises islam and it's sharia.. with the innuendo of racism.. at least that's what i see, and because of this, people become very wary of pointing out how wrong some of these cultural/ religious rituals are..
Comment by kOrsan on November 5, 2012 at 4:17pm I think it was Pat Condell who said that islamophobia is not a valid word. Since phobia denotes an irrational fear, and there is absolutely nothing irrational about fearing Islam.
Comment by Pope OoO (Out of Order) on November 5, 2012 at 7:19pm The Islamic country with the most Muslims is Indonesia. About 1/3 of all Muslims live there or in India, or Bangladesh. Is it really not irrational to fear them?
I'm mainly opposed to the "they're all the same" generalization, as if it's ok to indict (or fear) them all. The countries that have the most dangerous Islamic extremists are the same countries that have also had the most oppressive government.
If you're not into solutions, I'm not interested... I'll just leave you to your liberal bashing "awareness".
i didn't say "they are all the same" and i wasn't bashing all liberals..
interested or not, there is a distinct difference between relevant critism , racism and nationalism... and some would put all three under the same umbrella called islamophobia.. if we can't differentiate them from eachother, relevant critism of islam will be lost.. and primitive practises that are encouraged by sharia , hadith, and the quran will continue..
i'll find you an easy button to press .. it's that little red x at the top of your the screen :)
Comment by Pope OoO (Out of Order) on November 5, 2012 at 7:51pm Ah, only bashing some liberals. Silly me for misunderstanding that.
