"Because the tree disobeyed him." That just made me chuckle real good.

He went to the fig tree, knowing damn good and well it wasn't fig season, then got pissed off because there weren't any figs! If he could turn water into wine, you'd think he'd be able to put a fig on a fig tree out of season, or at least ask his daddy to do it.

Possibly if he'd studied more science in high school and less religion, he'd have taken a botany course that could have helped him with that.

Trees are very good at following orders when they want to.  In fact they follow them perfectly when it so happens the order is what the bugger would have done anyway (which is basically to sit there and grow slowly).

When it's bearing fruit out of season, though, you are SOL.

Of course, Jesus was good at trying to order organisms to go against their own natures.  In fact you could say that was all he was about.

I think Robert has sponge where his brain is supposed to be! How on earth could someone say a tree disobeyed someone and this should be withered.

Would that make him SpongeBrain Bob? Are his pants square?

I looked it up, by damn it seems to be there in my KJ's copy!

Makes you wonder if passages like this are indications of a mental disability, something extream narcisism. Given how the rest of the book reads, this might be likely.

Trees are funny that way, they hardly ever do what they're told.

Maybe the tree didn't understand the language he was speaking.
