Another Senseless Death

Recently, a girl in my hometown died in a car crash while being dropped off at a friend's house. She was 16, an allstar athlete, and straight-A student. I'm so sick of people trying to justify horrible events by saying it's "God's plan". It makes me throw up.

Oh and Michael is making a mistake no one has called him on... he sweeps the intermediate steps between the big bang and us under the carpet, in fact he goes so far as to point it out.  So now he can say, "wow we came from nothing" as if there was nothing and then *poof* look people! nearly-hairless apes banging away on computer keyboards and tablets!

But that's the same error creationists make all the time; they demand to know how species A can just suddenly arise from species B, and if evolution is true when did some chimpanzee mother give birth to a human baby (never mind for now the fact that evolution does not claim we descended from chimpanzees--let's take the stupidities one at a time and not get sidetracked).  In other words they insist that evolution works in big steps when we've told them over and over and over and over again that it does not.

Now if evolution actually said that the species change happened in one fell swoop like that, it would be absurd on its face, and many of the arguments creationists use (such as wondering what that first human would mate with to propagate the new species, wondering whether males or females evolved first, etc., etc., would be good ones.  But that's not what evolution says.

But it is what the leaders of the creationist movement want evolution to say, and they do their best to convince their sheeple followers that it does.

It is a vital part of the evolutionary theory--as well as the larger picture of the development of the universe as it is today from the big bang--that the complexity we see today arose gradually in baby-steps.  Michael is attempting to get us to ignore that fact as he chides us for believing people came directly from nothing.

That's a strawman argument, it's dishonest, and it's what I've come to expect from him.  The only reason I don't just call him dishonest is that it's possible he doesn't realize what he's doing and he's one of the sheeple followers of such certainly dishonest folks as ICR, AIG, etc.

I admit that I just had the same conversation with a religious nut on facebook.... I was just trying to mix it up a bit :D

I want to share a small success I had recently.... I got one of my super-religious cousins who lives in the giant red dot on the California map that is Ridgecrest to watch this documentary:

Seems like a good starting point :)

I've informed all my friends and relatives that when I die (which shouldn't belong, now), PLEASE don't disrespect me by praying for me or invoking the mercy of an entity that I don't recognize in any way.  I'll be DEAD - end of story!
