The existence of God is not subjective...

It is certainly preaching to the choir, but it is still edifying.  It is clear and to what should be an uncontested point.  Sadly, the point would be completely lost on many fundamentalists out there.

is anyone or anything's existence subjective?

Smart lad - Ricky Gervais - it is a classic quote - not stale at all, and needs to be stated as often as possible - to inspire new Atheists. Same with Sam Harris quotes, Christopher Hitchens quotes, etc. etc. - they are all good.

Thanks for reminding us Sophie :)

Round 2, Angela?

RE: "Is a Belief in God Necessary - or something like that." - how about, "Is a belief in an invisible magic man necessary?"

Think you would get a similar response?

So you're saying you believe that lies and delusions are the better alternative?

What happens when a child is finally told that there's no Santa Claus? Does his world collapse? Does he crawl into a hole or under his bed, curl up into a ball and refuse to come out? I've never heard of a single case, have you? They adapt, they adjust, and they move on, seeking other sources of happiness.

How do you account for the fact that most of the scientists in the world are atheists - did they NEED theism? Or the fact that most of the guests of the world's prison systems believe in a god? How much good did that belief do them?

I'm curious as to why Belle Rose is staying out of this - you two could have been twins-in-thought earlier this year, you'd think she'd be there to help a sister out --

I mean, they know that 'religion is the opium of the masses right? -
There ya go - hit it right on the head - if religion gives solace to mothers watching their babies die in front of them - if they need to think that there is a better after life - that is sooo OK, I do not, in any way shape or form, have any problem whatsoever with this - it is the money making hypocrites, the mormons, the catholics the scientoliigsts, the exclusive brethren, the Jehovah witness, raking in millions, that is my problem. I don't care if people want to worship a rock - or stones found in the ground ala Joseph Smith - the ones who abuse the naivety, the plight, the only thing they hear is that 'Jesus loves you - have never read a book, that is my problem.

Education is the key, get religion and its bloody creationists out of secular schools.

Our fabulous new Prime MInister is cutting Science and Climate Change portfolios. That's progress.

These 'Jump for Jesus' people know that critical thinking, evaluation, evolution, and logic are their enemy, so get rid of them. I cannot look at the news anymore here, with this knuckledragging moron now in power. His nickname is the Lizard King - he is setting Australia back at least 50 years.

No, Angela, I don't berate poor, disenfranchised, people from third world countries, I don''t berate or think stupid, impoverished people who can't get a job, I don't berate or think inferior people with no education, it is called Empathy - but I do despise with vehemence, the hierarchies of all these religions that make money out of western people, 'cause the poor just can't afford to do it - to prop up multi millions dollars empires, businesses - so they can swan around, live in protected mansions, while babies are skeletons, while women can't use contraception, the televangers making millions out of peoples fear.

Abhorrent, criminal, cowards, charlatans - they are the ones - It is people like Ricky Gervais, Stephen Fry, George Carlin etc, the scientists, the educated - who keep the message going - that is the difference - the intelligent who can put a sentence together - to pick apart the bullshit - people like Archy, H3, Strega, RobertPiano - who know their bible, who are logical, and can explain, and with a sense of humour, and can dissect the rubbish that theists put forward.

Get a bit better informed Angela - read about the Benevolent Society of Australia - I have only heard of them recently - where abused, tortured children from heterosexual couples are being adopted by Gay couples - start reading about the Secular groups helping in war torn counties, read about the Australian women in Iran - Atheists, getting girls into schools. As with anything, do even just a little bit of research is an eye opener. And everybody here, who is an Atheist, in their country, the same good works are happening - just without the money making con jobs that xians have - and without needing a "Jump for Jesus", just doing it quietly.

RE: "You need to STOP thinking about 1st world problems." - are you saying that the minds of third-world countries are somehow different from those of more economically-developed countries, and that we should assume some form of guardianship of these lesser minds and feed them lies and mythology, because they're incapable of understanding anything else.

How colonial!

Have you met fellow TA Member, Onyango Makagutu, also a member of the Luo tribe of Kenya? A few generations ago, his ancestors were carrying spears and wearing lion-skin loincloths, yet he is one of the most intelligent, and certainly well-read individuals I know, and an atheist as well.

Suppose I should try to re-convert him to Jesus?

"How do you account for the fact that most Drs aren't atheists." - I don't account for it, because I don't know that it's true.

Comment by archaeopteryx on September 20, 2013 at 6:19pm

Now you're really confusing me - are you saying that you actually, personally, KNOW all of those in third-world countries that you want to help by feeding them lies and bullshit? How many thousands, and how did you find the time?

Comment by archaeopteryx on September 20, 2013 at 6:30pm

Here's another member of a third-world country, who probably knows more third-world people of either of us, and who has experienced the kind of help you offer so freely:

"When the white missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said 'Let us pray.' We closed our eyes. When we opened them, we had the Bible and they had the land."
