i was on one of those stages for many years as a worship leader and musician, it saddens me at times to think of how ego-centric churches have become as they won't look out the window to see what god may actually be telling them to do.

It never ceases to amaze me how the average American Christian worships a character that would be diagnosed as a psychopath, or at least a Borderline Personality, if it were a human being.  I shudder to think that it may only be the law of the land in which they live that prevents them from doing the unspeakable with the excuse that they are trying to follow their god's biblical example.   Christian clergy torture and kill child "witches" in Africa.  Would Sarah Palin torture "witches" in Alaska if she could get away with it?

The lower image is so horrific, it cancels out the message...  I have seen this photo dozens of times now and can barely get past the desire to just cry.  Silly as it sounds, I believe in the message completely here but if the far right religious used this image to drive home a point...a lot of atheists would have a problem with it...just sayin...

The photographer of the second shot is Kevin Carter.  Roughly a year later, his suicide note read as follows:

 

The suicide note he left behind is a litany of nightmares and dark visions, a clutching attempt at autobiography, self-analysis, explanation, excuse. After coming home from New York, he wrote, he was "depressed . . . without phone . . . money for rent . . . money for child support . . . money for debts . . . money!!! . . . I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings & corpses & anger & pain . . . of starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of killer executioners . . . " And then this: "I have gone to join Ken if I am that lucky."

Gah! That song is evil, it sticks in the head. I hate the ads for the Xian music CDs with that song. That is how they get people, they make nasty earworms like that.

That said, the combining of these images provides one of the main reason I cannot believe in a "god"; no all powerful, all knowing, loving being could allow a child to suffer that way.
