i like the comparison, just not the statement that Penn State's punishment was "rightly" administered. The leaders should be punished, not the people who had nothing to do with it.

I agree, Andrew.

I think of the horrors of the Roman Catholic Church throughout history, the inquisitions, crusades, false imprisonment, child rape, and these torturers who ordered all of this, are sanctified and made to be saints! It is a sick and twisted religion...I ought to know...I was once one of the brainwashed!

With the Catholic Church, the term brainwashed is more appropriate than one might think. When I was in grad school I wrote my dissertation on coercive persuasion (brainwashing). That was the time of the CIA's highly unpopular MKUltra brainwashing schemes, and I accidently found something similar with the Catholic Church. It seems that the church was keeping a large staff of both behavioral and cognitive psychologists for the sole purpose of developing effective brainwashing to improve their depth in society as well as their income.

It seems to have worked. The Catholic Church is the wealthiest organization on the planet. It has more income than ford and GM combined, but they rate at which the church used that enormous income to assist the needy is utterly dismal. They seem to buy millions in gold for the Pope's pleasure but provide almost nothing for the millions of Catholics in need.

One other strange fact I came across was a fact sheet on crime statistics. It seems the highest crime rate in the entire world by population is in the Vatican. Vatican city has 800 residents and there are 600 crimes every year.

I am usually skeptical and check my facts but I haven't on this one because it seems so typical of something connected with the Vatican.  Greed simply abounds in higher religious leaders, plus, so many are closet atheists.

@ John Cook, no doubt that the RCC is a crony organization. The leaders make each other saints and yes, the money is incredible. The MO of the RCC is: Give us your babies before they know anything about the world or the universe around them and we will mold our reality of fear and intimidation.into them and keep them slaves to this reality while they give us money for the rest of their lives.

The RCC receives money from the Faith-Based Initiative according to how many members it has. The RCC has closed the office that handles requests from members to separate from the church. My name, and no doubt others, remain on the official membership roster, even as we denounce the church and the church makes money on our name.

The leaders of the RCC are crooks! Period!
