It is called faith so that it does not need to be answerable to anything but itself. 'Faith' is a semantic copout.
Faith is a way of showing that someone's commitment to God cannot be shaken, despite all the evidence against His existence.
Actually, the more absurd one's belief, as measured by the strength of the facts arrayed against it, the stronger one's faith is.
This is why so many theists come here: they know they can really prove their faith here by discovering how foolish their belief is. They then prove their faith by exercising their antiintellectualism and persisting in their folly.

What do you think about the statement "It's called a Theory because it's not knowledge!" That's what we see from the anti-science contingent. It's equally pithy. It's equally dismissive. Yet as scientists we would rely on a theory despite the fact that theories are always contingent, just as others may rely on faith even though faith is often contingent.
