I'm wondering about the notion of "coincidence." You'll often hear people say, "Everything happens for a reason," or "It's no accident that __________happened."...implying that there's a reason for it.

I must say that it's hard to argue with some things that have happened to me as being seemingly as though some force is protecting me. I wonder.....

What do you think? What is serendipity to you? Is it coincidence, luck, result of chaos, or the Universe speaking to us in some small way?

This is going to sound like hogwash to most people, but I find I get good luck when I act bravely, unselfishly and without expectations.  So if God exists and works to intervene, that's how.

"Everything happens for a reason" = "everything has a cause".

We have to remember as well that everything is linked by a web of cause and effect, extending in all directions in space and time, so it's not surprising if things link up sometimes, especially as humans and the human world are so complex.  From what I understand, this is part of the Buddhist concept of "emptiness".

Yes...incredible coincidences happen moré often than one might expect. That doesn't mean it happened for a reason.

I'll go further than Davis: Everything is a coincidence. For anything that happens, something else (myriad, bordering on an infinite number of things) is happening at the same time. Taken at its most basic, "co-incidence" simply means "two or more things happening simultaneously."

Actually, what we refer to as "coincidences" tend to be coincidences we find interesting for some reason. Maybe they are funny or ironic or tragic.
