I got a laugh at this (the best "sight gag" representation of this particular point I've seen so far), and then I think for a second:  how would an Xian counterargue this?  Why would it not make instant sense to them?

It's possible many of them have a peculiar "blind spot" in that they are so bound up in "Jesus = Son of God" that they may not see that we are questioning that.  The substitution, one for the other, occurs so automatically they don't even realize the text says "Son of God."  So to them the cartoon looks like Jesus saying he is himself and Jerry claiming he is Jesus.  Now if it's read like that of course Jesus is sane (at least with regard to not thinking he is someone else) and Jerry isn't.

[If you don't think auto-text-substitution occurs in peoples heads sometimes, I once challenged an Xian to find the words "God," "Christian," "Jesus" or "Christ" in the US constitution, since he was busy claiming that the US was founded on "Christian Principles."  I even offered to go away and shut up if he found any of those words.  He triumphantly dug up "Lord," which shows up in "Year of our Lord" in Article VII and thought he'd won the point.]

Sadly I think I date myself, but years ago, there was a story in 'Psychology Today' about a reality theapy experience. Two men that believed that they were 'God' were forced into conversation. At the end of the experience, one man showed all signs of 'recovering', and the other was even more convinced! I wish I knew which issue this story was in.

Now if they culd just get the other guy to be 'God' and do something useful, that would really be something!

I want to delete my account but this site doesn't let you.

Except that the site does give you that option at the bottom of your 'setting' page... Did you have a different username before? Because I feel like I've seen a different name attached to that avatar previously.

I used to run a transitional home for the chronically mentally ill and it was not uncommon to have a client who believed they were god.  Once, we had two, and after a couple of weeks one of them came to me and said: "I no longer believe I'm god."  When I asked why he replied: "He's here and I've been talking with Him!"

Could our SYSOP design a subrot to delete users that rely upon the excessive use of religious metaphors? Just a thought...;p)
