Oh but it was all created with you in mind.. of course.

Comment by SteveInCO on September 12, 2012 at 10:37pm Well, certainly the facts given are true.
Let's consider the notion of "significance." It's an evaluation of importance. Doesn't it come with a "...to whom," as in, "significant to whom"? Or is there some sort of cosmic "significance" independent of any consciousness doing the evaluating? I don't think so. Significance is in the mind of the beholder.
I am significant, to myself and to certain others, and that's regardless of how physically nano-puny I am compared to the universe. But I won't make the mistake of assuming I am significant to everything and everyone in the universe, and I sure as fuck won't invent a god and pretend he thinks I am; if anything, a hypothetical god would actually regard me and everything else on this planet, and this whole freaking galaxy, as quite insignificant. (Unless intelligent life is both prized by him and very, very rare.)
Comment by Unseen on September 13, 2012 at 12:42am But don't you know (snicker), you're important to GOD. After all, he knows when every sparrow falls and when every pedophile priest has his way with a choirboy.
Comment by Logicallunatic on September 13, 2012 at 12:48am True of course, but I don't care for the whole "we are an insignificant speck of dust in the cosmos" attitude to be honest. It could paint atheists in a negative light. If it must be used then it should always be followed by something with a positive spin like how lucky we are to be here to try to discover the universe.
