And we all know what EVIL spelled backwards is!

Last night, during a Criminal Minds show, a 'satanist' cult leader mentions that the term 'satan' means 'the apposer' in Hebrew, and that 'Satanists' are just aggressive 'Atheists'. I did not hear much rebutal from the other characters.

RE: "Atheists Are Evil"

Certainly not all of us, still, there ARE some:

Give me a sledgehammer, a machete, and a sack full of kittens and I'm a happy man!

I think I 'could' be evil, but it just seems distastful and mean. Even connecting a 'sledgehammer', a 'machete' and 'a sack full of kittens', in my mind creates more crappy thoughts that I would rather not conceive of.

I figure that a truely moral person needs to have the means and knowledge to do evil, but never the motivation or planning to carry it out.

Evil. Right here. I just don't focus my evil on folks who cling to childish fantasies about absentee father figures.

James Cox - I believe we all have a dark side - thoughts of which, we'd rather no one knew - I further believe that what we are as Humans is largely determined by how well we control that part of us. The entire story of Doctor Jekell and Mr. Hyde was about exactly that - the potion Jekell ingested removed that inhibiting barrier.

"With great power, comes great responsibility". "Great power" in the form on
consciences.  Good and evil depends upon our ability to decipher this power.
What is "good" for one can be "evil" for another.  There are soo many variables
and influences on this power that no matter what we do "Good and Evil" will
ALWAYS exist and it's part of the beauty of nature and the universe.  A mythical
god does not generate/promote "good" nor does Satan/evil god generate/promote "evil".  We as
a conscience species, generate/promote "good and evil" in our response to survival on our home called Earth.

I saw a website comment where a guy named Phil Harmon is calling on all Americans to join together in prayer in the first of the year.  He feels that God has never provided substantial proof of his existence other than the Bible, which no real God could have ever written unless he was drunk or is an outcast from the order of the Universal Gods. Of course there are also those nebulous and random events that some people claim happen from result of praying.  You know this as the prayer answered so perfectly that it must be God. But real proof is always a bit sketchy--sort of like flying saucers, the Loch Ness monster, Bigfoot, the goat sucker, Santa Clause, Area 51, the Easter Rabbit, the 9/11 conspiracy, Tooth Fairy, pregnant virgins, and honest politicians.

So, I think this is a good idea he has.  If all Americans join in prayer on the first of the year asking God to show himself in a manner that could not be denied.  Certainly if God is a real god, then  300 million prayers being delivered in earnest by his faithful and non faithful alike would be enough to bring God to make some sort of a showing or he isn't the God we think he is and does not deserve our faith.

I have an idea.  I am a disabled person. Pray to make my legs well again.  I was damaged by a phony doctor. No license, no training, and the hospital lied to keep from having to pay and to keep their "good" reputation. Even the California medical board and three lawyers cheated me--one telling me that no one would believe me so go ahead and report it.

I am 70 now and have suffered in terrible pain for 25 years. I really deserve to have my legs again, and I would like to have a small income so I can afford to fix my house, get three aching teeth fixed, repair my bathroom and kitchen (Water, toilet, and sink don't work) and get my wife the care she needs. There is no medicare coverage for Borderline Personality Disorder. BPD comes from an abusive childhood and unlike bipolar disorder, which is covered but cannot be cured, borderline is a curable mood disorder. No one will help us and we are using a five gallon bucket for a toilet. Plus we both need glasses and the tires on the car are bald and when they go we can't go to the doctors or shopping. No bus routs within miles, and no one will help. Over 200 letters to the government officials and the best we have received is a request not to continue bothering them because they cannot do anything.

We need help, we are good people, well educated, and this would be a good test of any God.

If every American and every atheist prays to God to fix my legs and they get fixed, then we will know that God was involved because they have been bad for 25 years now.  If nothing happens,  then the Catholic Church has been duping people to get greedy rich (the wealthiest organization in history) and they need to distribute that money to those who need assistance instead house a phony pope and dress his ass in gold.

If God does not respond, raid that false church, distribute it's billions in an admirable manner and disband religion and bibles. That religion has just separated people and made war seem good. It's high time we found if God was real by a big test.

John, I don't even know what to say - my heart really goes out to you. If you can't depend on your government to help, surely there are some non-religious organizations out there somewhere that can. Let your case be known to your community, there are likely some good people out there. Try letters to the editor of your local newspaper, or call a reporter and see if he or she is interested in your story. I had a problem many years ago, and did just that, and I got offers of help from people all over the state.

That's something we atheists should be doing, helping people in need. I'm not sure why there aren't more of us doing it.

Please stay in touch and let us know how things go.
