In HS, I had a biology teacher that would have nothing to do with evolution, and said so after I asked to be taught this as part of the science program. To spite him I donated my best fossils that I had found over my childhood to his school collection, and used some back of department space to try my hand at making simple polypeptides from amino acid samples I had. Sadly, my science activites were never recognized in HS.
