Kill in the name of god?

How about Jesus allegedly calling out "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do" (or something along those lines)?

Hitchens died waiting for an answer. He could have lived forever without ever getting a serious answer.

I think that the phrase "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do" was actually brought up to him once.  It's in a video on youtube, but unfortunately I can neither remember which one nor what his response was

"Father, forgive them, they know not what they do" That phrase, admittedly taken out of context and examined on it's own, seems like a cop out. It seems like the "moral" christian is basically pointing out some immorality, but has yet to actually do anything about it, such as trying to educate the "immoral" people about why what they're doing is wrong. It's the equivalent of yelling, "Look there's someone caught in a fire!" instead of diving into the fire to rescue the victims. Not necessarily wrong, but not really right either.

Again, I'm examining the quote out of context, and with no known circumstances present.

That sounds like something that maybe Jesus said (and maybe not--even if he did exist), but it's not something many of his followers practice all that often.

Recognizing that someone is not a "bad person" because they did something out of ignorance is certainly not a uniquely Christian trait, so I certainly wouldn't think of it as something only a Christian could do.

Here WL Craig thinks he has the answer. However while paying tithes or the worship of his god may be actions, they are not “moral actions” which was the question posed by Hitchens. They are all based on the assumption “that god exists” which even the greatest apologist you can conceive of suggested when he started with “if god exists”.
