Oh yes, that will save hundreds of lives. very useful...NOT
Good idea -- could be used for building latrines.
Christian radio stations spend thousands of dollars and effort to gather Bibles thinking that while they may bring some humanitarian relief, the Bible must accompany it. They try to hit the most vulnerable thinking it's fulfilling the Great Commission which is to make disciples of all nations. They believe it must be done but fail to see that if they spend all that extra effort instead of collecting Bibles on something more worthwhile imagine how much more they could REALLY help these people...
@Angela: Haven't you ever heard, "Go make disciples of all nations..." It's the Great Commision taken from Matthew 28:16-20...that's what they think they are doing here...
Amazing in this day and age that they get away with it.
Reminds me of the quote by Archbishop Desmond Tutu:
“When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said "Let us pray." We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land.”
He has some excellent quotes and if I did not know they were his I would have credited them to some witty Atheist. Spend a few minutes here if you like...
I understand that they still burn wood for heat in Haiti (you can tell from satellite imagery, it's quite deforested compared to the Dominican Republic which is on the same island of Hispaniola); perhaps the bible will save a Haitian tree.
Study bibles would be even better as they burn longer.
