Comment by Megestos on February 29, 2012 at 2:20pm I think the statement is a bit too strong. I would argue that a newborn human can not understand any metaphysical concept, since he or she lacks the ability to use language. Thus you are not born Atheist, you are born neither theist nor atheist.
Comment by lloydleroimiller on March 2, 2012 at 9:03pm I think that any blanket policy statements are anti-freethink. I'd try to phrase it,
"humans are born free of any beliefs." I only say so, not to be a bitch, truly, but this is a big part of what genuinely irks me the most about religions. Blanket policies. If it is true for me, it is true for all, everyone else is misinformed. When I am suddenly surprised by some sap who is intent on saving my soul, my one size fits all points, are obvious, once spoken, even to the truly obscure observer, or the morons that push the invisible guy. I can remain civil, I can make a valid point, and if I'm lucky and the person is somewhat literate, non-threatening
Comment by Leftieswillrule on March 2, 2012 at 9:10pm Well by definition, Atheists lack faith in any god, and because humans are born lacking any concept of God, atheism is a reversion back to the original mentality.
