I thought it was 50% of genes, i.e. not including "junk" dna, but I'm too lazy to look for the source, even though I'm not sure. Either way, it's just fricken awesome how a tree of life can be drawn showing how every species is related, even all the way down to single-celled life. Last I read about this (years ago), we could genetically trace ancestory of humans as far back as sea sponges! (I mean, damn, genetic relationship to chimps should not even be news to anyone, any more.)

It is said that fungi such as mushrooms are more genetically connected to humans than they are plants. Some segments of Bonobo DNA are more closely matched to Human DNA than it is to Chimpanzee DNA.

I wonder if Ray Comfort (aka Banana man) still keeps his opposable thumbs in his ears :-)…

As long as my biochemistry keeps working I am ok with it. If for reason I start to taste remarkably like a banana cream pie, I expect my significant will be satisfied none the less...;p).

If we were bananas, atleast any metaphors would have a greater correlation.

Since some of us have not fallen far from their family trees, and since few bananas have seeds, all the better...

oh, Reg, you Fronkey, Fronkey ape. Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read your line about Ray Comfort's thumbs.

@ Kairan...sorry about that....I am glad I changed it to ears before I posted it....;-)

DNA sequencing can be very misleading.

Maybe that's why pornstars like bananas so much.

Some segments of Bonobo DNA are more closely matched to Human DNA than it is to Chimpanzee DNA.

If that holds, then we get to revise the primate family tree ever so slightly; presently it's drawn with bonobo and chimpanzees closer together than either is to humans.  The three are in turn more closely related to each other than they are to gorillas; that would continue to be true.

I think I heard or read somewhere that lobsters share a lot more DNA with humans than some creatures you'd think would be much more closely related.
