A Quick and Easy Guide to God. Your thoughts?

Are you claiming there is any proof that the Christian bible is for real?  Seriously?

Comment by Heather Spoonheim on August 7, 2011 at 9:52pm

Liam, you suggested that I try picking up a bible and reading it 'cover to cover' - obviously making the assumption that I never have.  Now that you know that I have you can't seem to understand why I don't take it as seriously as you do.  If it requires other proof, then why didn't you just provide that in the first place?  I suggest it's because you don't feel it does require other proof, and I'll tell you why; you've been indoctrinated to a Bronze Age cult, most likely during childhood, and most likely by being told you would be set on fire and burned if you didn't believe it.

That's a lot of stress for a child to go through and it muddles the mind.  If you were indoctrinated as a child then I strongly suggest you get psychological counselling to help you deal with the damage that was done to you.  If you converted as an adult, perhaps during drug rehab or some such crap, then it may not be that difficult for you to overcome what they've done to you.  We are here to help.

he is all knowing, there is no need to test us because he already knows what you will do. However... You don't, and if you make it to heaven, you truly want to be there.

Direct quote there.

@ Stephen...

If you doint want to, you wont make it.

Where exactly did I say that you want you?

You and Heather are illustrating perfectly the absolute closed minded arrogance of atheists. Thank you for that.

@ Heather

Are you suggesting that it is not real?

Tell me... Where are the originals of Aristotle?

How about Plato, Caesar, Alexander the Great, or Socrates?

Where are their bones?

Where is the proof they ever actually existed and are not just myths?

You continuing to keep your closed mind and not assume that you might be wrong is proof that you are not stable in your belief. Anyone stable in their beleif is open to questioning it, without simply dismissing everything as myth.

You said if you make it to heaven you truly want to be there.

My question is one of open mindedness im sorry you dont see it that way. My mind is open to the fact that you laid out. Okay i put aside disbelief for a moment and say yep i made it to heaven.

Why would i want to spend an eternity worshipping and singing the praises of a being that spent the last 250,000 years of my species existence watching the sick, the innocent, the poor suffer and die while it did nothing. That is an eternity of slavery to a creature with no demonstrated empathy for my species.Why is this considered a reward so grand as to forgo reason?

Liam - What do Aristotle, Plato, Caesar, Alexander, or Socrates have to do with this?  They either existed or they didn't - I really don't care.  If there were a group of people who practiced symbolic cannibalism of the corpse of Caesar who wanted to change science classes to include the notion that Caesar farted the cosmos into existence then I might care - but that isn't currently a problem.

My mind isn't closed at all on this issue.  I'ld love to see some proof that a god exists; I think it would be cool.  Have you got any?

Pray tell me why is catholicism correct & islam, judaism, hinduism, sikhism, jainism scientology, mormonism, the ancient religions of the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Vikings, Mayas, Incas, Native Americans, Chinese, Japanese, African head hunters... all false?

You're the closed minded one, clinging on to every word of your dusty old book & when flaws or inconsistencies in that book are pointed out to you, you turn a blind eye to them or make a ridiculous imaginative leap to make excuses for that.

Liam, If you have any proof of the existence of your god (or any other god for that matter), Please present them.. I would LOVE to have a single book to do all my thinking for me!

@Stephen

Your question was, What makes you so sure i would want to be in heaven?... My answer was nothing. You cant hypothetically see why you would want to be in heaven. You either want to be in heaven.. Or want to be in hell... Or want to rot in the ground while the worms eat your face. Personally, I see heaven as a better option. But that me...

@Heather

What do Aristotle, Plato, Caesar, Alexander, or Socrates have to do with this?

There is no physical proof that they actually existed. Do you have proof that God did not create the universe? No... You don't. You, just as most "good Christians", blindly believe something with no proof.

However, you beleive is based on the fact that at the beginning of time, nothing was there, nothing happened, then something happened and boom the universe that is such a perfect timepeice and the planet capable of supporting so much life just created itself.

But you cant wrap you head around god?

Tell me... Why should one unreasonable belief deserve more credence in schools as any other unreasonable belief?

@Akshay

Pray tell me why is catholicism correct & islam, judaism, hinduism, sikhism, jainism scientology, mormonism, the ancient religions of the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Vikings, Mayas, Incas, Native Americans,
Chinese, Japanese, African head hunters... all false?

Because I believe so. And no one has shown me anything that makes more sense. I am only not open to listening to ridicule without returning it. Wanna be civil? I'm all ears.

You're the closed minded one, clinging on to every word of your dusty old book & when flaws or inconsistencies in that book are pointed out to you, you turn a blind eye to them or make a ridiculous
imaginative leap to make excuses for that.

Pray tell me where one person has pointed out an inconsistency or flaw to me?

So your answer to reasonable questions as followup to your arrogant condemnation of a logical axiom was to say....

im right cause i want to be right. Nah nah nah lala
