Snopes may have identified it as a hoax, but they also pointed out they get the same sort of stuff from people themselves.

So in some ways it's not really a hoax, we DO have to deal with this attitude from some small but not insignificant percentage of people (I know I've seen it elsewhere).  Just not from Alice Shannon of Soldotna AK.
