@SteveInCO: I personally would not want to waste my time being outraged at a hoax - indicative of a larger problem or not - so when I found the information I passed it on.  If we treat as legitimate every troll that comes down the pike even after they've been exposed, we're not directing our energy at the real problem.

This attitude needs to be addressed.  This letter can be dismissed.

I think the fact that it is a joke that was printed in a newspaper as an opinion is the scariest thing of all. Why would anyone do that? I just don't understand.

The fact that many people responded to share similar sentiments as expressed in the hoax letter bothers me more, to be honest.

Oh I'm sorry.  I didn't read this earlier because I had to rob a liquor store, act lasciviously atop a moving bus, call my parole officer, flip off some Girl Scouts, sacrifice a goat, and get a Wendy's spicy chicken guacamole sandwich.  An atheist's job is never done!
