Cats are the reason I BELIEVE in SATAN.
Humans own dogs...but...your cat owns you.
@unseen. it's amazing how easy a pet makes the day better. is squeaky same one anti belly rubs?
Yes, that's her. I only have one cat. When I pick her up I grasp her with two hand, one under her ribs and one under her tummy. I can touch her that way, but it's when she's on her side or on her back that she gets testy about touching her tummy. I think that is just instinctive behavior.
Do your cats enjoy or at least endure being touched there?
mine used to flip over for rubs. though if they were done risked claws.
i think they get over stimulated so out pop claws. mine were fond of love nips. when they were kittens taught them claws hurt by pressure on paw exposing claw and saying ow. they learned claws = ow. i also used eye contact and hissing to establish dominance. cat didn't get hurt but learned.
i used to trim and file claws once monthly. I bathed them twice a month. I have mild allergy to them so had to.
Yes, cats decide how much attention is too much and definitely let you know when your services are no longer required.
I don't clip Squeaky's claws. There's nothing here she isn't allowed to sharpen her claws on other than me. Her cat tree has a built-in scratching post. She also has a flat sisal scratching mat she loves. But she also sharpens her claws on the carpet and occasionally on my couch. I don't stop her. I like to let her be a cat as much as possible. I don't want to be that roommate who is always complaining to the other roommate about this and that.
Anyway, should she get out (hope it never happens) she should have all her claws sharp & ready for what they are there for: escaping larger predators, self defense, & dining.
Hissing is a great nonviolent way to get a cat's attention & tell it "Don't do that!" It really works.
I've never bathed her and hope I never have to. That will be traumatic. I would expect to end up with terrible scratches.
you can bathe a cat if you start that out when kittens but for most part unless allergic really don't have to. I had to choose between loving something allergic to or give up cat. since loved cats decided bathing them was an acceptable risk.not to say didn't get scratched i did. hence trimmed claws.Mine had mostly free rein minus counters and tables. Own pets don't be attached to shoes or furniture is my thinking.
