Here is his speech on the report into child abuse by the catholic church. Soon after it we got rid of the Vatican's embassy in Ireland......It is a powerful speech.

And this is why and rightly so...

Here is the specific quotation made by Cardinal Sean Brady, the most senior Catholic cleric in Ireland, and holder of a doctorate in theology (an advanced degree in the study of nothing).

Upon being asked if legislators who voted in favor of the legislation would automatically be excommunicated and should not present themselves for Holy Communion, The Reverend "Doctor" Brady replied:

“That is down the line at the moment, as far as we are concerned. It is [our intention] to convince the electorate first of all and the legislators to change”.

Later in the same conversation Brady stated:

“We know what the [church] law is about excommunication about abortion, that’s a fact. But, as I say, the most important issue at this moment is to win the hearts and minds of the people of Ireland. We’re trying to persuade them not to introduce it. We have to, in addition to do good, we also have to oppose evil and to oppose a law that would take away fundamental rights from people – [that law] should be opposed.”

In other words, legalizing abortion to save a woman's life (which is what the current legislation proposes) is taking away fundamental rights of the Irish people.

Someone should ask Brady how many Catholic clergy he is working diligently to be excommunicated (or at least criminally prosecuted) as a result of the findings of the Ryan Reports, since he is so terribly concerned about protecting the fundamental rights of the Irish people.

@ Robert - Thanks for that video. It ends asking that the faithful make the restoration of the faith in Ireland their life’s work. That is exactly the opposite of what many of us here have been doing for the last 20 years or so. We are winning. I am certain that the majority of those born since 2000 will be Atheists. I hardly know anybody that bothers with the Catholic Church anymore. It is meaningless to most people under 40.

Dude Ireland is one of my places to visit too! Trying to save up some money so in about couple of years I can go tour Europe.

Good for the Irish Prime Minister to stick up for the constitution

I think he should present himself for communion, walk up, and as the priest reaches to place the host on his tongue he should close his mouth, turn and walk out.  It would be great to get that on video, very symbolic.
