Think Atheist reserves the right to suspend any member for any reason if it is deemed necessary.

If you would like to express a concern, make a complaint, or offer feedback on any matter Report an Issue or Send Feedback. You may also contact a moderator directly. Posting Guidelines:

Please be aware that a moderator may contact you to request that you repost your content in the proper format or appropriate section, or request that you edit your post in order for it to meet guidelines. If your post is deemed inappropriate for Think Atheist, it may be removed. Though we try to preserve your contributions, Think Atheist is not responsible if content is lost. SAVE your content before posting to ensure it will not be lost.

No part of Think Atheist shall be used to defame, discredit, or berate another member of the site. If you participate in live debate, you must refrain from personal attacks. Find a constructive way to make your point.

BLOGS

  • Must be topical and somehow relate to free-thought/atheism/skepticism/science.
  • May not contain “blind links”. Posts that take the form of "Hey, check this out! [URL]" are not allowed. Either copy and paste the full text of the piece from the link (or at least an excerpt in the case of long pieces) or provide a summary or critique of the piece in your own words, while in either case providing a link for attribution to the source of the piece.
  • Cross blogging is allowed, however, it must be a complete post and not contain a blind link to drive traffic to another site. Posts that take the form of"Read the rest at my blog/ here [url]" are prohibited.
  • Must contain at least a paragraph of content. If you want to make a Twitter-like post, do that on the front page in the activity feed ("What's on your mind?").
  • Must contain citations. If the content in your blog was not authored by you, cite the source from which you retrieved it, and provide a link back to the source if possible.
  • Must contain more than an image or video. You must at least write a paragraph to accompany an image or video (not merely a caption). If you do not want to write anything next to the image or video, you must upload your picture/ video in the images section or video section. You may also create an album.
  • No flooding. Posting multiple blogs in succession clogs the blog feed. Be considerate and allow exposure for other members. If you would like to space your blogs automatically, you can do so here.
  • No soliciting.

Due to the way blogs are formatted, consider the purpose of your post. If it asks a question or leads to debate, you may prefer to post it in the forum section where the format makes discussion easier. If a moderator asks you to repost your blog in the discussion forum, it is because that moderator sees the potential for ongoing discussion.

DISCUSSIONS

  • Must be topical and somehow relate to free-thought/atheism/skepticism/science.
  • Select the appropriate Category for your post (located under the text box).
  • Cross blogging/posting is allowed, however, it must be a complete post and not contain a blind link to drive traffic to another site. Posts that take the form of"Read the rest at my site/ here [url]" are prohibited.
  • No thread hijacking. Stay on topic when you enter a discussion. If you engage in a discussion that leads you to a different subject matter, create a new discussion for that topic. **Offending replies may be removed to keep topic on track**
  • Provide citations if applicable.
  • Must contain more than an image or video. You must at least write a paragraph to accompany an image or video (not merely a caption). If you do not want to write anything next to the image or video, you must upload your picture/ video in the images section or video section. You may also create an album.
  • No flooding. Posting multiple blogs in succession clogs the discussion feed. Be considerate and allow exposure for other members. If you would like to space your discussions automatically, you can do so here.
  • No soliciting.
  • Downloadable content must be clearly described. (no "blind Links").

Rule of thumb: if the posts asks a question or for responses, or inspires debate or discussion, it belongs in the forum where the format allows for lengthy discussion (reply threads).

VIDEOS

  • Must be topical and somehow relate to free-thought/atheism/skepticism/science (although you may embed whatever video you like on your profile in your "About Me" or "Why are you here?" sections).
  • If the video is part of a series, only post the first one and YouTube will automatically link to subsequent parts. Duplicate videos (videos that already exist in the Videos section) will be declined. Please search FIRST before submitting a video to make sure it doesn't already exist.
  • No flooding. Posting multiple videos in succession clogs the video feed. Be considerate and allow exposure for other members.
  • May not be pornographic.

GROUPS

  • Must remain active. Extended inactivity (3 months or more) may lead to group deletion.
  • Must have a topic that lends itself to longevity. A group on the 2012 US Presidential election that's only going to be active for a few months while its active is impractical. Discussions on such topics can be had in existing broader-themed groups (e.g. a political group).
  • Must not incite violence or hate against any person or group.

Groups are intended for niche interests that do not necessarily have to do with atheism, and for networking with people who have similar interests or geographic locations. If there is already a group that exists with a similar theme, join that group instead of creating a duplicate (there needn't be several vegetarian groups, or several feminist groups).

IMAGES

  • May not be pornographic.
  • May not contain gratuitous violence.
  • Must contain a title.

Think Atheist reserves the right to delete any image if it is deemed inappropriate.

EVENTS

  • A moderator will notify you if Think Atheist cannot be affiliated with an event you are hosting.
  • Please contact Dan if you would like to host an official Think Atheist meet-up in your area.

CHAT

  • No flooding. Flooding links to chat will earn up to a 24-hour ban per offense.
  • No blind links.
  • No soliciting.
  • No Personal Attacks (name-calling or abusive remarks directed at a person or group of people) *BANNABLE OFFENSE*

Think Atheist reserves the right to remove members from chat and or clear the chat text at any time. There is no saved chat log.

Common Courtesy

  • Out of courtesy, please label any content NSFW (Not Safe for Work) that contains nudity or excessive profanity, or anything else that could be construed as "offensive" while in the workplace or in front of family members.
  • Please tag your blogs and discussions for ease of organization on this ever-growing site.
  • If you're feeling too heated in a discussion, take a moment to calm down before continuing to engage. Moderating your own feelings is much better than having someone else do it (namely, the mod team). As mentioned above, personal attacks, harassment and threats will not be tolerated.
