I am a senior and live alone in a small Upstate New York town and a senior's social life consists of church or a senior center (which is filled with religious minded seniors).
Why are you here?
This is a good way for me to meet like-minded individuals. Non-theists need a way to connect. It would be better if it was face-to-face in real time. Maybe we can figure out how to do that together on this site and others like it. Remember, religious orgs are as strong as they are because in any town in the U.S. you can go to a physical structure (church, mosque, synagogue, etc.) if in need to talk to someone. And that's how they get converts. We need physical meeting places where the closet secularist can feel safe to discuss existential ideas. Just meeting places (no preaching!! of our views, just to talk intelligently and safely) and that's how we will gain the strength to fight the injustice and inequality spewed by fundamentalist religious groups.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
Over the years I just opened my eyes to all the religious hypocrisy; the manipulations by humans who saw their own social gain and power in preaching a dogma specifically created by humans: the Bible, Koran, etc.
