Why you left your religion.

In looking back into history and forward to our current day, I see that religion of one sort or another is responsible for more deaths than probably all but the most virulent diseases. That is probably a statistical exaggeration, however when comparing all the human causes of human death?; I bet I'm right on the money.
What benevolent god, let alone any other type of god who is worth his salt, would permit this level of carnage! I'd rather not be associated with that sort. I mean, if they actually existed in the first place. This has been the source of my agnosticism/atheism (haven't really decided how to label myself).
I also have a lot more to say about the political (United States) aspect, but that will have to wait till another day.
