Was raised as a fundamentalist, non-denominational Christian (conservative Church of Christ, if anyone's interested) and bought into it wholesale for a long time. Around the time I turned 30, I started to have some lingering doubts, and when I was 32, those turned into full-fledged problems for me. After a lot of rigorous study, I finally realized that Christianity just made no sense to me. I spent a couple of months toying with the idea of deism, but after reading the God Delusion, I realized that I was like a 6 on Dawkins's scale of atheism. Saw no need to avoid the "atheist" label after that and haven't regretted it since.
